New Rector Search

Our Search for our Next Permanent Rector

Our Process

You may have read about our long history on this website. It’s a story with many chapters, and we are now beginning to write the next chapter of our conversation with God and our understanding of God’s Will for us in the days and years to come. Our Search Process seeking a permanent Rector continues. We follow the wisdom of our Bishop, her senior leaders, and the learned experience of the Episcopal Church in a process that invites us into prayerful and hope-filled dreaming of how we will be the church in the future. This requires patience, discernment, trust, and confidence in God’s providence since the process usually takes some time. Our Search Committee, composed of members who have the time, gifts of discernment, discretion, broad knowledge of the parish, and kindness have conducted gatherings we call “Congregational Conversations,” asking key questions about our vision of our parish in the days and years to come, and what gifts our next Rector might bring to help us live into that vision.

That work of understanding who we are now has informed how we present ourselves humbly and honestly to those clergy who may be seeking a new call. Our Community Ministry Portfolio is now posted on the national transition database; interested clergy can find this on the OTM website. This call is also succinctly described and advertised in other venues, such as the Episcopal News Service Jobs Board.

We ask clergy who wish to discern with us to please submit cover letter, resumé, and OTM portfolio to the Canon to the Ordinary, the Rev. Canon Roy Hoffman,

The Search Committee will be tasked with seeking candidates who have the gifts, graces, and skills we need for the next chapter of our story. They, in partnership with the Bishop’s office, will do appropriate due diligence on prospective candidates. Once the Search Committee discerns which candidate will be recommended to the Vestry for their consideration, and the Bishop approves their recommendation, their work is done. The Vestry meets and talks with the recommended candidate (and their family if appropriate) and discerns whether they will concur with the recommendation of the Search Committee. Should they do so, and much more often than not they will agree, they will vote to offer the call to the recommended candidate. Please do pray for the Vestry, the Search Committee, and any and all prospective candidates in the months to come!

Prayer for our Search Process

Come Holy Spirit. Open our ears to hear your quiet whispers, our eyes to see clearly the challenges and possibilities before us, and our hearts to feel your loving presence.  Guide us in this search process so that we may seek to do your will. Bestow upon us the gifts we need to do the job that has been set before us. Hear our prayers, O Lord. In the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Amen

“The Lord said to Samuel: ‘Do not look on [their] appearance or on the height of [their] stature, because I have rejected him; for the Lord does not see as mortals see; they look on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”
